Lump Charcoal Showdown: High-End vs Budget Brands
Переглядів 7 тис.14 днів тому
Boy did I get an earful in the other charcoal showdown. Person after person said that lump charcoal is the only charcoal and briquettes are just imposters. In this video, I test to see which lump charcoal provides the best and if it is worth spending more to get something that goes up in smoke! Tested Charcoal: Expert Grills (Sold at Wal-Mart) Cowboy Lump (Sold at Wal-Mart Royal Oak (Home Depot...
Why the Huntsman is a Game Changer

The Huntsman grill from Spider Grills has gotten a lot of buzz, but can it live up to they hype? I've had some time to test it and let you know what I learned. Spider Grills gave a great deal for all of you. If you use promo code "grilltop" at checkout, they'll throw in a battery for free so you don't have to use an extension cord to power your Huntsman. Why I stopped letting charcoal get white hot

We all make mistakes and using a charcoal chimney can be a bit of a learning curve and getting the timing right for dumping your lit charcoal takes some practice and experimentation. In this video, I delve into the age-old question: when is the optimal time to dump your coals out of a charcoal chimney? Many grilling enthusiasts swear by waiting until all the coals are ashed over, but is that re...

I've said it. You've probably said it too. If you are looking, you aren't cooking! But does that matter on your average charcoal grill? I set up a test to see what the impact is when you lift the lid on your Weber Kettle. I've wondered if it is worth splurging on fancy expensive charcoal since it literally goes up in smoke. I bought six different brands to compare and test them to see if there is a difference and it was huge! This is the list of charcoal I tested, which may be available to you locally for cheaper! Is Reverse Sear The Best Way to Grill a Steak?
You only need to ash it over if you're using lighter fluid.
It would be nice if the huntsman has a similar accessory like the kettle joe to increase the cooking vertical cooking space. With the huntsman lid design and weight it's not going to possible.
As an individual that works for a large sporting goods store... I do NOT recommend anything from duraflame.
Super fine ground chuck will always be the best burger when cooked medium to medium well.
You cook it good...but I know it doesn't taste good 😂
Nope
Disagree that only alternatives are ceramic Kamados. Akorn Auto Kamado is the true value winner in my book. Can be found for $300 and got mine on a crazy sale for $225. If anyone is looking for evidence of bias, for me it is the lack of mention of this metal alternative. They use dual layers similar to a metal thermos for their heat retention. Not perfect, but 1/3 the price.
I mentioned the Weber Summit Kamado. I don't think many would look at the Akorn and the Huntsman and think they are directly comparable.
@@GrillTopExperience. Metal, kamado, automatic and remote temperature control, under $1k. Yeah right, not comparable at all. LOL. But I guess there are some differences like the Auto Kamado shelves coming included but Spider charges an extra $150 for theirs, and the Huntsman lacking much headroom, so no tall cooks or room for warming rack.
NEVER USE A WIRE BRUSH The wires can come off and end up in your food, I don’t think I need to explain what happens nect
Everyone needs to establish their own risk tolerance. You can reduce that risk significantly by buying a better brush and replacing it more often.
What about Joe Biden?
Tell me honestly. If I have a Webber 26 with a venom is the huntsman worth buying?
Do you need me to say yes to convince a significant other? Something you have with more space and the same controller is harder to justify the upgrade.
Is updating a Weber kettle a waste of money? I have a Weber kettle from 2004, it has an ash catcher, but none of the little things. I have added a thermometer and it has a lid hanger. I often think about updating it, but I don't see what I would get besides hangers on the handle. Is there anything really different between today's model and one 20-year-old?
It's up to you if the tool hanger on the handle is worth it. The one creature comfort for me that is non negotiable is the ash catcher over the dinner plate on the original.
Good stuff my man.
I just purchased a weber master touch.. I'm wondering if I should return it and get the membersmark premium kettle with ignition assist that mimicks the performer...
All this coming from a dude using green wood...WITH BARK,mind you!! 😂
I hate to disappoint you, but those wood chunks were well over a year old.
Thanks
I just bought the latest X200 on Amazon. It's half-price today, June 13, 2024, in the UK for £116.00.
I have the cheapest model and I use it all the time. I’ve cooked everything on there including briskets. I love that a simple and cheap design can still make great bbq
Informative and enjoyable! Great job
total cook time ?
“Couple of drops of oil” **Invades Iraq**
When you grill out in the winter months in the mid west, I always wait and let them all ash up. Plus I use royal oak charcoal chunks for the most optimal heat. Damm right, I have steaks on the grill in a snow storm.....
Man Wal Mart meat just like others y'all stupid they buy local like your super market pay attention smh at end of day it's beef depend how you cook it
Light fluid dosent affect taste unless you’re using it after you already started to cook. Fucking amateurs
The tip of leaving half without coal is super useful, thanks
Gosh you look so much like Paul Rudd
Wrong. You can buy really cheap offset smokers... like for 150-200. I bought two Pecos offset smokers, one for 400 and the other for 250 because someone stole the grate.
Hey, I just wanted to let you know this video really helped me make my decision over here in Blighty (UK). I’m so pleased with my MasterTouch! Also I’ve been following your content since and am very grateful for your work!
I'm so glad! Thanks for sharing. Knowing these videos help people make it worth it.
Cheers mate, this helped me a lot 👍
My first slo/smoke cooked meat last night was a success. Thanks
It won't be the last!
on the grill😊
Wait, light the joint or the bbq
1:39-1:45 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My grill is nearly 20 years old, and today i learned the drip tray can be removed for cleaning 😳 thanks! (Its a char broil and i have to get behind and under it to see this - but i do that when i change the tank so i probably should have noticed it!)
If it's 20 years old, you must be doing something right!
awesome lets make pizza
For the love of God, DO NOT USE A WIRE BRUSH. You use an onion or something like that to clean the grill. It'll save your life and save you a hospital visit
would love to see a video comparing the taste of a snake method slow cook via charcoal briquet vs lump charcoal!!!
is water necessary? what does it do can you smoke without it just to do a smoke touch up after its cooked?
No starter cubes. I save a cup of bacon grease in the freezer and put a small chunk in a piece of paper folded like a square and put it in with the crumpled paper as usual. The grease helps the fire burn longer to start your coals better.
5:50 how was the flavor of the other brands? very curious about Kamado Joe Big Block, JD XL Lump?
You are the man. You are like the NASA scientist who decided instead to contribute to the advancement of BBQ skills in mankind.
I’ve grilled peaches but never thought to grill pineapple-next experiment!
5:17 by process of elimination, embers is the one that almost made you throw up!
I have a Weber Smokey Mountain 18in and I need a fan controller for that. What's out there?
Thank you.
followed your advice, got a pretty good result. thanks!
Terrible
You know what else is terrible? .
dry bryne and charcoal.....this combo on a good steak is a fkin win
All these charcoals act in different environments with humidity and temperature here in North central Florida Royal Oak has always worked the best for me it always cooks long and hot with great flavor
Depending on the cook ill wait until the my starter cube of tumbleweed has burned up, otherwise once I get clean smoke I start cooking
2:50 Are there any briquettes that give off the least amount of white smoke?
Yes, not all briquettes are created equal. I tested six different brands: ua-cam.com/video/tPib7lzsVKU/v-deo.html
